Maya was invited to gymnastics by her friend Jonathan. I was worried that she'd just cling to me and not want to participate. Big open space with lots of children running around and things to climb & jump off isn't the most ideal setting for my shy little baby bird. But lately Maya has fire coursing through her veins and I am absolutely loving it. I discovered a few months ago that I wasn't doing a good job of listening to her cues in some areas of her development (long story for another time perhaps). Our dynamic now is so much more trusting and intuitive than it has ever been and she is responding so well. Maya enjoyed every single activity. The staying with the group and following the instructor bit did not work at all. I tried getting her to stay close but it was so upsetting to her, so why fight it? We'll be signing up this fall as soon as the summer programs are over.
